Dr. Abdulla pioneered relatively low band-width on-line multimedia lectures
to educate patients and their family members about the
diagnosis and management of heart disease. The goal
of the lectures was to present "personalized" information using a familiar classroom lecture format.
Every effort was made to balance simplicity with the
needed depth of information. Animations were designed
from the ground up to achieve this goal. Common analogies
are used to illustrate points. For example, a pump and
sprinkler system are used to explain the effects of
a heart attack, while a pump and dam example is used
to explain heart failure. Streaming audio and automatic
changing of slides enhances the visitor's experience. Subsequently, the lectures were modified to take full advantage of a faster band-width (Cable, DSL, etc). Both of these formats are offered to match your connection speed.
