What is Congestive Heart Failure or CHF?

  • The body is made up of living tissue that requires fuel (oxygen and nutrients) for survival
  • The supply of blood (which carries these vital substances) increases and decreases with the needs of the body
  • CHF occurs when the heart is unable to meet the needs of the body, i.e., when demand exceeds supply
